History
In 1882 Gottlieb Daimler built a small experimental workshop in Cannstatt. He obtained the patent for the first high speed combustion engine in the following year. In 1890 he founded the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. Already seven years before, Carl Benz founded the Benz & Cie. Rheinische Gasmotorenfabrik in Mannheim. In 1926, the two oldest automobile companies in the world merged to form Daimler-Benz AG. In 1999, a merger with Chrysler followed and created DaimlerChrysler AG. Yet nowadays, Chrysler is no longer part of the Daimler-Benz group.
